ACCF Resolution: November, 2001

Resolution Adopted by Arlington County Civic Federation at the November 13, 2001, Meeting

ARLINGTON COUNTY CIVIC FEDERATION

RESOLUTION #2001-04

WHEREAS, public safety is the cornerstone of civilization and the foundation of community;

WHEREAS, Arlington's uniformed public safety personnel and Public Safety Emergency Communication Specialists respond to and direct action on a wide variety of public health, safety and emergency matters;

WHEREAS, Arlington's uniformed public safety personnel daily assume great risk to insure the safety and well-being of the public they serve;

WHEREAS, the events of September 11, 2001 will for all posterity remind us of the ultimate sacrifices uniformed public safety personnel may be required to make in the interests of the general public.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Arlington County Civic Federation, in recognition of the personal risk and sacrifices the men and women of the uniformed public safety departments (Police, Fire, EMS, Sheriff, ECC) make, hereby establishes a scholarship fund for children of Arlington's uniformed public safety and Public Safety Emergency Communication Specialist personnel;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this fund shall be called the Arlington Civic Federation 911 Higher Education Scholarship Fund;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the children, biological, adopted or foster, of any uniformed public safety personnel or dispatchers who have served in said capacity in Arlington County for no fewer than ten years, retired from one of the respective departments, been permanently disabled on the job, or killed in the line of duty, shall be eligible to apply in their senior year of high school for said scholarship so long as they maintain a 3.0 (B) grade point average;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Arlington Community Foundation (ACF) has agreed to be the administrator of the Civic Federation 911 Scholarship Fund, including, but not limited to, receipt of tax-deductible donations from individuals and organizations and the selection of qualified recipients.
