Our guest was Acting County Manager Mark Schwartz. His presentation may be viewed here [PDF, 96 KiB].

The second part of the program was a panel discussion concerning the historical designation of Strafford School as part of the consideration of the School Committee’s Resolution. The panel consisted of Michael Beer, Schools Committee Chair; Susan Cunningham, School Board Building Level Planning Committee (BLPC) Chair for the Stratford Project; Chris Forinash, Chair, Planning Commission and Public Facilities Review Committee (PFRC) Planning Commission Representative; Eric Dobson, one of four signatories for the letter requesting local historic designation to Historic Affairs and Landmark Review Board (HALRB); and Joan Lawrence, Chair of the Historic Affairs and Landmark Review Board (HALRB).

The November meeting explored how the Open Data movement can be used in municipal government settings to distribute timely data to empower citizens and improve strategic planning. We also voted on a resolution amending the By-Laws regarding payment of dues. Videos of the meeting recorded by Arlington County Public Schools Career Center students is available here:

The second of two meetings devoted to hearing from candidates running for local elected offices in the November election. The October program featured candidates in UNCONTESTED races. We heard from candidates for the following offices::

  • Virginia State Senator
  • Virginia House of Delegates
  • Clerk of Circuit Court, Commonwealth’s Attorney and Sheriff
  • Commissioner of the Revenue and Treasurer

We also reviewed a bylaws amendment and a Schools’ Committee resolution [PDF, 43 KiB] opposing the historic designation of Stratford introduced as part of new business.
